Voter Registration for Expatriate Bangladeshis Launched in Miami

Miami: The Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami, USA, has launched voter registration and National Identity (NID) services for Bangladeshi expatriates, enabling them to register as voters and receive NID-related services directly from the mission. Additional Secretary and Director General (DG) of the National Identity Registration Wing, ASM Humayun Kabir, attended the event as the chief guest, while Consul General of Bangladesh in Miami, Seheli Sabrin, presided over the ceremony on Tuesday, according to a message received here today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration marks a major step toward facilitating the participation of Bangladeshis abroad in national democratic processes. Through this initiative, expatriates under the jurisdiction of the Miami Consulate will be able to newly register as voters and obtain NID cards from abroad. Under the new arrangement, all expatriate Bangladeshis registered as voters by October 31, 2025, will be eligible to vote in the upcoming national election through an online mobile application system.



Addressing the gathering, the chief guest elaborated on the process of voter registration and voting from abroad in the forthcoming national polls. He also responded to questions from expatriates regarding the NID and voter registration procedures and encouraged them to register as new voters. In her remarks, Consul General Sabrin invited Bangladeshi nationals residing in the United States to avail themselves of the long-awaited voter registration and NID services now available at the Consulate.



She assured that the mission would ensure smooth service delivery and urged the expatriate community to extend full support to make the government’s initiative a success. She also called upon community leaders to raise awareness among expatriates about the new services. During the event, DG Humayun Kabir and Consul General Seheli Sabrin ceremonially handed over NID cards to applicants whose requests had been processed during the trial phase.



The programme was organised with the cooperation and participation of the Florida State BNP, whose members contributed to the event’s success through active engagement and large attendance. During the interactive session, several community leaders, including Rafiqul Haque, senior vice president of Florida BNP, Dinaj Khan, its former president and current adviser, and Arif Ahmed Ashraf, former general secretary, raised questions and shared their views.



Emranul Haque Chakladar, president of Florida State BNP, concluded the session by thanking participants and expressing hope for the continued success of the expatriate voter registration and NID initiative.
