Veteran Journalist ASM Habibullah Passes Away at 91

Mymensingh: Veteran journalist and former Chief News Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) ASM Habibullah died of old-age complications at his residence here today. He was 91.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ASM Habibullah breathed his last this morning at his residence in the Sankipara area of Mymensingh city, as confirmed by family sources. He had been suffering from old-age complications for a long period. ASM Habibullah was a prominent figure in the field of journalism in Bangladesh and was also connected with the international media outlet Voice of America.



He served as the general secretary of the National Press Club, earning special recognition and respect within the journalistic community for his commitment, professionalism, and courage. His passing has left a significant void in the country’s media landscape, with many colleagues, relatives, and admirers mourning his loss.



National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan expressed profound shock at the death of the esteemed journalist. They offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended condolences to the grieving family. In a condolence message, Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS Kamal Uddin Sabuj described Habibullah as a pioneer in parliamentary reporting, highlighting his dedication and contributions to the development of the national news agency and journalism in the country.



The President and General Secretary of the BSS Journalists Welfare Association, Anup Khastagir and Manikul Azad, also expressed deep sorrow at the death of ASM Habibullah, the founder president of the association. Additionally, Mymensingh Press Club General Secretary Md. Abdul Qayyum conveyed deep shock over the loss of the veteran journalist, who also served as the general secretary of the Mymensingh Press Club.
