Dhaka: The verdicts in six corruption cases involving the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members, concerning irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal New Town Project, are anticipated to be announced by late October or November. This was confirmed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Abdul Momen during a media briefing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC chairman made these remarks in response to journalists' inquiries following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) and the ACC at the commission's headquarters. He stated that the six cases are still under trial and that the court is expected to deliver its verdicts after completing the witness testimonies, potentially by the end of October or the beginning of November.
Momen also revealed that the ACC is working to revive the Gulsan case against Hasina's niece and British MP Tulip Siddiq, which had previously been paused due to a High Court order.
In discussing the ACC's commitment to transparency, the chairman emphasized the importance of eliminating internal corruption, stating that if the ACC office itself is not free from corruption, it cannot credibly demand that other offices operate without corruption. He acknowledged the significant role that the media has played in supporting the ACC's efforts to address corruption.
