Dhaka: Victory Day School Kabaddi tournament, marking the Victory Day, began at the national kabaddi stadium in the city's Paltan area today (Thursday). Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Md Salim Fakir, formally opened the two-day meet as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the opening ceremony was presided over by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) Vice President Abdullah Al Noman, with BKF General Secretary SM Newaz Shohag also in attendance. During his speech, Additional Secretary Selim Fakir highlighted the government's commitment to supporting Kabaddi. He noted that the recent achievement of Kabaddi players securing third place in the Women's World Cup demonstrates their capabilities. He expressed optimism that new talent would emerge through such school tournaments.
On the first day of the tournament, Hardinge Government High School and Civil Aviation School and College in Dhamrai reached the final in the boys' section. In the girls' section, Hamida Afaz Girls' High School and Mirpur Girls' Ideal School secured their spots in the final. Both finals are scheduled for tomorrow (Friday).
A total of ten school teams, including six boys' and four girls' teams, are participating in the knockout competition, organized by BKF.
