Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul today said the reduction of the United States (US) tariff rate on goods from Bangladesh to 20 percent from the previous 35 percent is another success of the interim government. The adviser shared this update in a post on his verified Facebook account this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the US made the announcement following the final round of talks in Washington DC between Bangladeshi officials and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the main body responsible for overseeing US trade policy.
A press statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing highlighted that Bangladesh secured a 20 percent tariff rate, which is comparable to its key apparel-sector competitors such as Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia, all of which received rates between 19 percent and 20 percent. Consequently, Bangladesh’s relative competitiveness in apparel exports remains unaffected.
