Dhaka: Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir today stated that the United States holds Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in ‘the highest regard’, highlighting this as a sign of the strengthening bilateral ties as both nations progress towards a comprehensive partnership.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser emphasized that the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Sergio Gor’s visit to the foreign ministry, underscored Washington’s confidence in the Bangladeshi leader and its commitment to deepening engagement with Dhaka. The discussions between the two sides revolved around trade, investment, technology, Bangladesh’s economic potential, and international cooperation.
He noted that Washington views Bangladesh as a potential technology hub in Asia for the next decade and aims to bolster cooperation to achieve this vision. The adviser remarked on the U.S. administration’s focus on fostering stronger economic ties across the Asia-Pacific region, with Bangladesh considered a nation of significant importance and value.
The adviser highlighted Bangladesh’s strengthened international credibility following the national election and its ‘Bangladesh First’ foreign policy, which prioritizes national interest in diplomacy and economic engagement. Under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, Bangladesh is gaining global recognition, enhancing its image and confidence among foreign governments and investors.
Addressing security cooperation with Saudi Arabia, Humaiun Kobir noted that the partnership is expanding beyond religious ties to a broader strategic collaboration, not directed against any particular country. On Chinese investment, he mentioned that while no specific discussions had occurred, Bangladesh anticipates significant investments from both China and Western countries, maintaining balanced relations with all partners.
Lastly, in response to inquiries about former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, the adviser confirmed that the Home Ministry is working on his return from the United Arab Emirates, with further updates to be provided when available.
