Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today emphasized that the forthcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections will be crucial in deciding the country's future trajectory. He highlighted the importance of these elections in determining whether the nation will adhere to a democratic path.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at an inspection program for security drills conducted by Ansar and VDP members in preparation for the upcoming national elections. He underscored the collective responsibility of voters, law enforcement agencies, political parties, and journalists in ensuring that the elections are participatory, free, fair, and credible.
The CEC expressed his commitment to making the elections a success, not only in his official capacity but also as a citizen. He described the training of Ansar-VDP members as an "investment," stressing its importance in equipping them to handle their responsibilities effectively during the elections.
Addressing the challenge of misinformation, particularly from social media, the CEC warned against the unchecked spread of false news and revealed that a special cell has been established within the Election Commission to combat this issue. He also announced that officials on election duty will have the opportunity to vote via a new 'Postal Voting App,' launching on November 16, to facilitate registration and postal ballot voting.
The CEC also conveyed the Election Commission's efforts to ensure voting rights for expatriates and citizens in lawful custody, expressing optimism that trained Ansar and VDP members will fulfill their roles responsibly during the elections.
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Director General (DG) Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud elaborated on the digital measures planned for election security. He detailed the use of a digital platform to manage security operations, allowing instant reporting from polling centers to response teams. This system aims to enhance coordination, transparency, and the effectiveness of electoral security measures.
The DG also noted the pivotal role that young Ansar members will play, attributing their participation to increased electoral security momentum. The transition to a fully digital AVIMS software for deployment marks a significant shift from the previous system, ensuring greater transparency in the election process.
