Khulna: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today warned that any unwanted debates could provide opportunities for anti-state elements, urging everyone to remain vigilant in this regard. “There could be arguments and discussions on various issues of politics. But we must stay alert so that none can destroy the country by taking advantage of political controversies,” he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rahman was virtually addressing the Khulna City BNP’s biennial council as the chief guest at the city’s Circuit House Maidan. The council was held after a long gap of 16 years, beginning in a festive atmosphere with various formalities at 9 am.

Rahman emphasized that a significant portion of the country’s population is looking towards BNP as a potential governing body. He stated that if the environment for fair elections is ensured in the future, BNP will have the opportunity to come to power and serve the people. However, he urged BNP leaders and workers to remain active and prepared, reflecting their dedication in their speech and actions, even at the cost of personal interests.

He called on party leaders and workers to draw inspiration from martyred President Ziaur Rahman and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, pledging that if given another chance, BNP would complete its unfinished work. Highlighting BNP’s 31-point outline for state reforms, Rahman promised efforts across all sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and industry.

Rahman also referenced a past statement by Begum Khaleda Zia, asserting that “the dictator Sheikh Hasina will destroy the country and flee.” He claimed that this prediction had come true, accusing the current leadership of looting and destruction, and called for efforts to restore the nation.

He emphasized the need for internal democracy within BNP to ensure capable leadership. Earlier, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Amanullah Aman inaugurated the conference around 10:15 am, with national and party flags hoisted, and balloons and pigeons released.

Vice Chairman and former minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, along with other prominent party figures, spoke at the event, which was presided over by Khulna City BNP convener Shafiqul Alam Monar.
