Mymensingh:State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury emphasized that the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) is designed as a future-oriented social security system aimed at ensuring people's financial stability rather than merely providing retirement benefits.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yasser highlighted that under the UPS, individuals contribute while they are economically active and receive financial support in the future based on these savings. He described it as a strategic social investment.
Yasser made these remarks while virtually addressing a discussion and cultural program at the Mymensingh Divisional Universal Pension Fair 2026 at the Circuit House ground, where he served as the chief guest.
The minister noted that the UPS includes four schemes: Prabash, Pragati, Surakkha, and Samata. Eligible participants can select a scheme that suits their personal circumstances, offering an opportunity to secure their own and their children's futures.
He urged citizens to encourage their family members and colleagues to participate in the pension schemes, emphasizing the importance of enrollment for a secure and prosperous future.
The event also featured speeches from Mymensingh-4 MP Md Abu Wahab Akanda Wahid, Finance Division Joint Secretary Sharif Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Bank's Mymensingh Branch Executive Director Arifuzzaman, and National Pension Authority Executive Chairman Dr Md Suratuzzaman, who delivered the keynote paper.
Officials, political representatives, and social organizations attended the event. The fair was preceded by a colorful rally from the Office of the Divisional Commissioner, which concluded at the Circuit House field.
