Nabinagar: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has emphasized the need for the common people to unite and build resistance against illegal sand extractors. This call to action was made during her visit to river erosion-affected areas and a views-exchange meeting in her native village, Nasirabad, located in the Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharmeen highlighted that relying solely on the administration is insufficient to combat illegal sand lifting. She stressed the importance of collective action by the community to resist sand lifters effectively. The Adviser urged local authorities to implement necessary measures to prevent illegal sand extraction to protect homes, croplands, and the livelihoods of the affected population.
The meeting was attended by several officials, including DIG of Bangladesh Highway Police (Eastern Division) Mohammad Habibur Rahman Khan, Deputy Commissioner Didarul Alam, Superintendent of Police Ehteshamul Haque, and other key figures. Sharmeen, while responding to a journalist's question, also addressed the issue of cybercrime, advising the youth to develop skills in the IT sector as a means to combat this growing problem.
