Dhaka: The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at the DNCC Auditorium today unveiled its Dengue dashboard, a data-driven monitoring tool designed to transform how city authorities track and respond to outbreaks amid the ongoing dengue prevalence in Dhaka.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the dashboard was developed through the DNCC Innovation Lab with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The initiative aims to generate actionable insights for timely interventions and raise public awareness on dengue prevention, as highlighted in a press release from UNDP.
Mohammad Azaz, Administrator of DNCC, who was the chief guest at the event, described the Dengue Watch dashboard as more than just a tool, emphasizing its role in transforming DNCC into a digitally driven, transparent, and accountable institution. He noted that by integrating health, environment, and governance through innovation, DNCC aims to build a smarter and healthier Dhaka.
Mohamad Ashaduz Zaman, Acting CEO of DNCC, underscored the importance of collaboration in transforming city governance. He emphasized DNCC’s commitment to scaling innovative initiatives for the benefit of citizens.
Stefan Liller, UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh, reiterated UNDP’s support for innovation in urban health management. He highlighted the establishment of the Innovation Lab in 2025 by DNCC and UNDP as a hub for smart, scalable, and citizen-centered urban solutions, with the Dengue Watch Dashboard being one of its latest achievements.
Brigadier General Imru-al-Quais, Chief Health Officer of DNCC, welcomed participants and stressed the urgency of adopting innovative strategies to protect citizens. The tool was showcased during the keynote session, which was followed by a panel discussion with stakeholders from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), icddr,b, and other partners.
The discussion focused on how predictive analytics, risk mapping, and improved data integration can enhance early warnings and coordination between local and national systems. Dr. Benazir Ahmed, Former Director of DGHS, was also present at the event.
The gathering included representatives from the health ministry, city corporations, development partners, and start-ups. Participants concurred that tackling vector-borne diseases like dengue requires real-time data, stronger partnerships, and a visionary approach to resilient urban health.
The launch of the Dengue Watch marks DNCC’s initial step in incorporating data-driven practices across city health operations, aiming to better protect communities against climate-sensitive diseases. The dashboard is accessible at: https://dnccinnovationlab.github.io/dengue-dashboard/
