Dhaka: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain today urged all concerned to practice fasting by understanding the significance of holy Ramadan. ‘Fasting should not be just a worldly practice,’ he said, calling the Muslims for burning the bad desire being glorified with the teachings of Ramadan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks at an Iftar Mahfil at the TSC auditorium organized by Dhaka University (DU) under the patronization of Turkey Diyanet Foundation (TDV). He emphasized the importance of bringing purity into every aspect of life by upholding the beauty of Ramadan, reviving morality, and awakening the virtue of humility. He stressed the need to suppress the evil instincts of character.
Dr. Khalid requested everyone to spread the message of harmony and brotherhood in society in addition to seeking the pleasure of Almighty Allah through observing fasting. He described the misappropriation of state resources as unfortunate and urged those in positions of responsibility to avoid the mentality of exploitation. ‘When we get the responsibility of running the country, we must avoid the evil mentality of grabbing everything. When we get the responsibility, we eat from the top and collect from the bottom as well. We have to come out of this culture,’ he stated.
The event also featured DU Arabic Department Chairman Professor Jobayer Mohammad Ehsanul Haque as the keynote speaker. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan and TDV’s Bangladesh Coordinator Oguzhan Adsiz attended as special guests. Additionally, DU Pro-VC Saima Haque Bidisha, teachers, officials, and employees of the university were present, while DU Treasurer Prof Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury chaired the function.
