Tehran: The United Nations on Wednesday reported that approximately 100,000 individuals fled Tehran during the first two days of US and Israeli military strikes on Iran, which took place on February 28 and March 1.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) noted in a situation report that the exodus was a direct response to the attacks. The report detailed that while a significant number of people left the Iranian capital, there has been no corresponding increase in cross-border movements.

The situation at the Islam Qala border crossing with Afghanistan has remained stable, with no substantial changes observed in the flow of people, as per the UNHCR’s observations. The conflict began after a large-scale attack by the US and Israel, which resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and areas across the Gulf.
