Gaibandha: One UN Peacekeeper, Sabuz Miah, was laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard in Choto Bhagobanpur village under Palashbari upazila of the district this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sabuz Miah was one of six army personnel killed in a drone attack by a terrorist group on December 13 while serving in a UN peacekeeping mission in Abeyei, Sudan. Miah, a resident of Gaibandha, was working as a laundry attendant in the mission.

At around 2 pm, Miah’s body was transported to Tulshighat helipad from Dhaka by a Bangladesh Army helicopter. From there, an ambulance carried his body to his village home in Choto Bhagobanpur. The arrival of the ambulance at his home was met with a heart-wrenching scene as family members grieved, and a pall of gloom enveloped the local community.

Family members received Miah’s body and prepared for his burial. A second namaj-e-janaza was held in the yard before his interment in the family graveyard in the afternoon.

Conversations with family members revealed that Miah had joined the Bangladesh Army as a laundry worker eight years ago. He was the youngest of three siblings and had married in Natore district a year prior. He had visited home on leave three months ago before returning to his duties. His mother and wife were residing at the village home.
