Accra:The UK Home Office's Country Policy and Information Team (CPIT) has reported increased political stability and a reduction in violence in Bangladesh following developments in July 2024 and the formation of a new government after the national election in 2026.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fact-finding mission conducted by the CPIT took place in Bangladesh from June 7 to 15, 2026. The mission involved interviews with government officials, police, political party representatives, civil society members, human rights organizations, journalists, and researchers.

The Executive Summary of the report indicates that Bangladesh's political landscape has stabilized and improved significantly since July 2024, especially after the 2026 election. The national election was generally peaceful and less violent compared to previous elections, with a noted decline in political violence afterward.

Political parties, journalists, civil society, and human rights groups have reportedly been able to operate more freely, expressing their views and participating in public discussions more than during the previous Awami League government's tenure. There have been greater opportunities for political engagement.

Police officials emphasized their role in maintaining law and order and highlighted efforts to ensure security during major religious festivals. Despite some continued incidents of political violence, these are mostly confined to local disputes involving influence, business interests, and political control.

The report also underscores that most people arrested in politically motivated cases during the previous government have been released, with over 21,000 such cases withdrawn According to Bangladesh Police. A review of historical cases is ongoing.

Overall, the UK Home Office report paints a picture of increased political stability in Bangladesh, highlighting reduced post-election violence, expanded political freedoms, and a focus on law enforcement accountability and reform.
