Dhaka: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has congratulated the Chevening and Commonwealth scholars, stating that the UK government-funded scholarship programmes reflect the strong partnership between Bangladesh and the UK, grounded in shared values and mutual respect. “Our scholars have all studied at world-class UK universities, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in Bangladesh in the years ahead,” she said.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the British High Commission Dhaka recently hosted a welcome home reception for Bangladeshi Chevening and Commonwealth scholars who recently completed their postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. The event, held at the British High Commissioner’s residence, brought together returning scholars alongside representatives from the British Council, the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows, and the Chevening Alumni Association of Bangladesh.

In his remarks, Stephen Forbes, Country Director of British Council Bangladesh, emphasized the potential of the scholars to drive progress in Bangladesh, highlighting the importance of staying engaged with the Commonwealth and Chevening networks to tackle future challenges.

A total of 40 Commonwealth and 22 Chevening graduates were celebrated at this reception, alongside distinguished alumni, said the High Commission. The Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), offering fully funded opportunities for emerging leaders to pursue postgraduate study in the UK. The Commonwealth Scholarship is a fully funded award for students from Commonwealth countries to pursue postgraduate studies (Master’s or PhD) in the UK.
