Tarakanda: Two cousins, both aged two, drowned in a water-filled pit near their house in Tarakanda Upazila on Monday. The tragic incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased were identified as Aliullah, son of Babul Mia of Gopaldarikel village, and Ruby Akhter, daughter of Rasel Mia. The incident occurred around 10:30 am in Gopaldarikel village under Kamargaon Union of the upazila. The two children were playing near their house when they accidentally fell into the nearby pit.
Family members initiated a search after realizing the children were missing but could not locate them initially. Around noon, the bodies were discovered floating in the pit. Immediate efforts were made to rescue them, and they were rushed to Tarakanda Upazila Health Complex. However, the on-duty doctor declared the children dead upon arrival.
Tanvir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarakanda Police Station, stated that the bodies were returned to the families for burial without conducting an autopsy, as no formal complaint was filed.
