Rangpur:A wedding celebration in Rangpur Sadar upazila ended in tragedy when two young cousins drowned in a pond Wednesday afternoon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims were identified as Rupa Rani, 10, from Champatali Mistripara village, and Panchami Rani Roy, 8, from Kachna village. They were at Araji village for the wedding of Ratan Chandra Roy, a local resident.
The two girls left the house around 300 p.m. and did not return, prompting family members to search for them. Their bodies were discovered in a nearby pond around 630 p.m.
Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Sadar Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that police responded promptly upon receiving the report of the incident.
