Two women hacked to death in Gangni over land dispute

Two women of a family were hacked to death and

a man sustained injuries during a clash over land dispute at Shanghat

village in Gangni upazila of the district this morning.

The victims were schoolteacher Jakia Akter alias Elma, 45, wife of Zahid

Hossain, hailed from the village and her sister-in-law Josna Khatun, 50, wife

of Hafizul Islam and also a mother of three children.

Locals said the incident occurred in the area while Elma’s brother-in-law

Mohibul Islam Ohid attacked the women–Elma and Josna– with a machete during

a family discussion over an ancestral property, leaving them dead.

Elma’s husband Zahid Hossain was injured in the attack. He was admitted to

Gangni Upazila Health Complex.

Following the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pritam Saha and

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Thana Tajul Islam visited the spot.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Gangni Thana Shirin said the body has

been taken to the police custody.
