Cox's bazar: A court here today sentenced two people to death and two others to life term imprisonment in a drug case in Cox's Bazar. Judge of District and Sessions Judge's Court Abdur Rahman delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the death row convicts are Noor Mustafa, son of Mohammad Hosan of Kutupalong Rohingya Camp in Ukhia, and Sona Mia, son of the late Najir Ahmed of Kutubdia Para in Cox's Bazar town. The two individuals who received life imprisonment sentences are Abdul Gafur, son of late Kalu Mia of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, and Md. Ayub Prakash Tayyab, son of late Mohammad Alam from the same area. Public Prosecutor (PP) Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter.
The prosecution details that on March 2, 2020, the Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a raid, resulting in the arrest of five individuals along with the seizure of 190,000 yaba pills and a microbus. Mizanur Rahman, the then police inspector of DB at Ramu Police Station, filed a case as the plaintiff regarding this incident.
In the same ruling, the court acquitted another individual as the charge brought against him could not be proven.
