Sylhet: Two people, including a teenage boy and an elderly woman, lost their lives in separate road accidents in Sylhet.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a 13-year-old boy named Tuhin Ahmed was killed after being struck by a truck in Jalalpur Bazar under Moglabazar Police Station in South Surma upazila on Saturday afternoon. Tuhin, a resident of Hasampur village in Jalalpur union, worked at a company named Swad. Eyewitnesses reported that the tragic incident occurred around 5:00 pm on the northern side of a bridge in Jalalpur Bazar, where the truck ran over him, resulting in his immediate death.
Following the incident, locals managed to detain the truck driver and subsequently handed him over to the police authorities, who have since taken him into custody for further investigation.
In a separate incident, an elderly woman, whose identity remains unknown, was fatally injured after being hit by a long-distance bus in the Nazirbazar area of South Surma around 11:00 pm on Friday. Despite being critically injured, she was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday afternoon.
Officer-in-Charge of South Surma Police Station Md Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the occurrences of both accidents, highlighting the ongoing challenges of road safety in the region.
