Dhaka: A court today granted three days’ remand for two people arrested in a case filed over the attack on Prof. Dr. Md Asaduzzaman Rahman, head of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The remanded individuals are Sabbir Hossain (18) and Fahim Ishrak Labib (20).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police produced the two individuals before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court this morning. The investigation officer of the case sought 10 days’ remand for interrogation. After hearing both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam granted three days’ remand for each of them.
The case statement reveals that on August 17, Professor Md. Asaduzzaman Rahman was leaving Popular Diagnostic Centre at the Shantinagar area after seeing patients, intending to return to his home at Mohammadpur. At Shantinagar, accused Jibon alias Adil, along with 5-6 unidentified individuals, allegedly formed an unlawful group as part of a premeditated plan and blocked the CNG carrying him.
The accused allegedly dragged Dr. Rahman out of the CNG. At one point, accused Jibon alias Adil punched him forcefully in his right eye, causing serious injuries. In connection with the incident, Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Rahman filed a case as the complainant at Paltan Police Station on August 18.
