Dhaka: The two newly appointed judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub, took oath this morning. Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath at the Supreme Court Judges Lounge at 10:30 am. The event was attended by judges of both the divisions of the Supreme Court, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and other senior lawyers. Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan conducted the ceremony.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed the two High Court judges as justices for the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on March 24. The president made the appointment as per Article 95 (1) of the constitution, with the appointment taking effect from the day they took the oath of office, as stated in a gazette notification.
Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, born on March 1, 1959, obtained his LLB (Hons) and LLM from Rajshahi University. He was enrolled as an Advocate of the District Court, the High Court Division, and the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on September 5, 1983, September 5, 1985, and October 25, 2001, respectively. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division on August 27, 2003, and appointed Judge of the same Division in August 2005. He was elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on March 25, 2025. Justice AKM Asaduzzaman has attended various international forums and visited multiple countries including India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Justice Farah Mahbub, born on May 27, 1966, obtained her LL.B. (Hons) and LL.M. from the University of Dhaka. She was enrolled as an Advocate of the District Court, the High Court Division, and the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court on September 15, 1992, April 09, 1994, and May 15, 2002, respectively. She was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division on August 23, 2004, and appointed Judge of the same Division on August 23, 2006. Justice Farah Mahbub was elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on March 25, 2025. She has participated in international conferences and visited several countries including South Korea, India, and Germany.
