Two Minor Cousins Drown in Bagerhat Fish Enclosure While Picking Water Lilies

Bagerhat: Two minor cousins drowned in a fish enclosure while picking water lilies in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat district on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Jannati Akter, 10, daughter of Mustain Sheikh, and Lamia Akter, 9, daughter of Mostak Sheikh of Dariyala village in the upazila. Both of them were students of Paschim Dariyala Government Primary School.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Officer-in-Charge of Mollahat Police Station Md Shahadat reported that the two children went to a fish enclosure, around 200 metres from their home, at around 7:00am to collect water lilies. During this activity, both of them fell into a deep part of the enclosure and drowned.

Later, they were rescued and initially taken to a local hospital. Subsequently, they were transferred to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
