Sadarghat: At least two people were killed and two others remain missing after an incoming launch crashed into one that was anchored at Sadarghat in the capital on Wednesday evening. A small boat carrying would-be passengers to the anchored launch got caught between the two, leading to several individuals being hit by the full force of the approaching launch.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately, as stated by Sohag Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat River Police Station. Rescue operations have been impeded due to inclement weather conditions following a pre-monsoon thunderstorm that swept through the capital around sunset.
Witnesses reported that the accident occurred when a small boat carrying approximately seven to eight passengers became trapped between the two launches during the collision. This tragic event resulted in two people losing their lives on the spot. The whereabouts of the remaining passengers remain unknown, according to allegations made by witnesses.
OC Sohag Rana mentioned that despite the challenges posed by the weather, rescue operations would begin soon to locate the missing individuals and assess the full extent of the incident.
