Two killed in Gopalganj road accident

Two people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a battery-run easy bike on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Daserhat area under Muksudpur upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Ranu Begum, 60, wife of Akmal Sheikh of Maheshpur village under Kashiani upazila and Hayat Sheikh,65, son of Abdul Haque of the same village.

The accident occurred when a Khulna-bound passenger bus of Dola Paribahan from Dhaka collided head-on with a battery-run easy bike coming from opposite direction, while overtaking another bus around 11:30am, leaving one passenger of the easy bike dead on the spot and six others injured, sub-inspector (SI) of Bhanga Highway Police Md. Abu Noman said.

The injured were taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, where one of them succumbed to his injuries, he said.

As the condition of the injured is critical, they have been referred to different hospitals.

Agitating locals set fire to the bus.

Later, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and brought the bus fire under control in 15 minutes.
