Dhaka: Two people lost their lives and at least eight others sustained injuries after a bus collided with two vehicles on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh, on Thursday morning. The unfortunate incident occurred when a Dhaka-bound United Paribahan bus hit a stationary vehicle and an auto-rickshaw.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased were passengers of the auto-rickshaw, although their identities remain unconfirmed. The accident unfolded around 8:30 am in the Kazir Shimla area when the bus first collided with a stationary Mahindra vehicle before ramming into the auto-rickshaw. Both the Mahindra and the auto-rickshaw were severely damaged in the incident.
Following the collisions, the bus veered off course and overturned on the roadside, resulting in injuries to at least ten individuals. Local residents promptly responded, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Trishal Upazila Health Complex, where two victims were pronounced dead by medical staff.
The remaining injured were later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Mansur Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, confirmed that the police recovered the bodies from the scene.
The authorities have seized the bus involved in the accident, although the driver and helper managed to escape immediately after the incident.
