Gaibandha: A joint team of police and the Detective Branch (DB) on Sunday arrested two Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in connection with an assault on police personnel inside Palashbari police station in Gaibandha. The arrestees were identified as Palash Ahmed, 35, the Baitul Mal secretary of Palashbari upazila Jubo Jamaat, and Golzar Rahman, 34, a rukon of Palashbari upazila Jamaat.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrests were made following a tip-off. A joint team of Palashbari police station and detectives conducted the operation leading to the capture of the two leaders. This incident follows the earlier arrest of three other Jamaat leaders related to the same case, who have already been presented in court, bringing the total number of arrestees to five.
The police reported that the incident took place on the night of March 25 when Jubo Jamaat leaders and activists forcibly entered Palashbari Police Station around 9:30 pm. During the intrusion, they assaulted Officer-in-Charge Sarowar Alam and seven other police personnel. Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, who sustained injuries during the attack, subsequently filed a case against the Jamaat leaders and activists involved in the incident.
