Dhaka: A court here today placed two people, including banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Farhan Tanvir Nafi, on a one-day remand each in a case lodged over a flash rally in front of the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University (DU). The other remanded accused is Md Rubel Miah.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand in the case. The case documents reveal that leaders and activists of BCL, Jubo League, and other front organisations of the Awami League attempted to stage a flash rally in the Dhaka University area at dawn on May 2. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Shahbagh Police Station raided the area at 6:15 am and detained the two individuals.

Police subsequently filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, leading to the court’s decision to remand the individuals for further investigation.
