Two Hizb-ut Tahrir Members Arrested in Motijheel Area

Dhaka: Police have arrested two members of the banned militant organization Hizb-ut Tahrir from the Motijheel area of the capital early this morning. The arrestees have been identified as Md. Amjad Hossain Bukhari and Mahdi Hasan, both aged 22.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release issued by the Motijheel Police Station stated that the two were apprehended around 6:30 am from beneath the metro rail structure near pillar no. 617 in front of the City Center.

Police reported that the pair was caught red-handed while attempting to put up posters promoting the banned group “Hizb-ut Tahrir, Ulayah Bangladesh.” A total of 20 posters were recovered from their possession.

Police sources confirmed that the two are supporters of Hizb-ut Tahrir, an organization that has been outlawed in Bangladesh due to its extremist ideology. A case has been filed against the arrestees under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Motijheel Police Station.
