Tongi: Two firefighters are critically injured with 100 percent burns following an explosion at a chemical warehouse in Tongi, located on the outskirts of the capital. Four fire service personnel are currently receiving treatment at the burn institute, with another firefighter sustaining 42 percent burns.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Resident Surgeon of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, reported that three of the injured firemen are in critical condition. The affected personnel were transferred to the institute after a fire incident in Tongi.
Firefighters Shamim, aged 42, and Nurul Huda, aged 40, sustained 100 percent burn injuries. Fire officer Khondoker Jannatul Nayem, aged 35, suffered 42 percent burns, while firefighter Joy Hasan, aged 24, received 5 percent burn injuries.
Director General of the Fire Brigade and Civil Defense, Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, visited the injured personnel at the NIBPS. The explosion occurred when the firefighters were extinguishing a blaze in a tin-shed chemical warehouse at Sahara Market, Tongi, Gazipur, around 3:29 pm, as confirmed by FSCD media officer Talha bin Zasim.
The injured were immediately admitted to the burn institute for medical care. Seven firefighting engines managed to control the fire around 7 pm after approximately two hours of effort.
