Dhaka: Two individuals, including a housewife, lost their lives in separate electrocution incidents in the Jhenaidah and Naogaon districts, causing distress among the local communities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first incident occurred in Shailkupa of Jhenaidah, where Afroza Khatun, a 26-year-old housewife, tragically died while cooking rice using an electric rice cooker. The accident took place around 7 pm when Afroza detected a burning smell and attempted to open the cooker's lid, resulting in her electrocution. Family members immediately transported her to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, but emergency physician Dr. Soya Israil confirmed that Afroza had passed away before reaching the facility. Her body is currently held at the hospital morgue.
The second incident was reported in Badalgachhi of Naogaon district, involving Shree Biman, aged 38, who was electrocuted while working at a fish pond in the Sherpur Gachkuri area. Police and locals recounted that Biman was using an electric pump to drain water from the pond for fish catching when he inadvertently made contact with a live wire around 11:30 am. Despite efforts by locals to rescue him and rush him to the Badalgachhi Upazila Health Complex, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Officer-in-Charge Md. Ruhul Amin confirmed that the police have visited the scene and that legal procedures are underway following the incident.
