Dhaka: Two male students of Dhaka University's Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall have been expelled from the hall, with their residential seats permanently cancelled over allegations of engaging in 'homosexuality'.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a notice issued by the hall authorities, signed by the provost, indicated that a three-member investigation committee was formed following a complaint lodged against the students on August 2, 2026. The committee reportedly found evidence of the students' involvement in activities deemed contrary to the discipline of the university and the hall.
The notice stated, "Based on the recommendation of the committee, your residential seat has been cancelled and you have been permanently expelled from the hall." The affected students are first-year students of the 2025-26 academic session and were residing in Room 119 of the old building of Mujib Hall. A video that went viral on social media allegedly showed the two in an intimate situation, though attempts to reach the accused students for comments were unsuccessful.
Muslimur Rahman, the hall union's vice-president, confirmed that strict administrative action was taken following the discovery of evidence supporting allegations of 'serious social indiscipline (homosexuality)' against the students. They were immediately removed from the premises in the presence of their local guardians, and further disciplinary actions through the university administration are being considered, he added.
This incident follows a similar case on July 30, where a student from Surja Sen Hall was detained and later permanently expelled over similar allegations. Additionally, allegations of the same nature were recently made against two guests in the room of the hall union's Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall, resulting in the temporary cancellation of the AGS's residential seat.
