Two Drug Traders Get Life-Term Jail in Ctg

Chattogram: A court here today sentenced a truck driver and its helper to life-term imprisonment for trading drugs in 2021. The court of Chattogram Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Begum Sirajum Munira pronounced the verdict. The court also imposed a fine of Taka 50,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convicts are driver Jahangir Alam, 26, and his helper Azizul Hoque, 29, both hailed from Cox’s Bazar district. The prosecution story, in brief, states that on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 detained the drug trader truck driver and his helper with 39,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from Moizartek area under Karnaphuli Police Station in the city on July 8, 2021.



Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the RAB-7 Jayed Bhuyan filed a case with Karnaphuli Police Station against the drug traders on the same day. On January 22 in 2022, police submitted the charge-sheet before the court while the court framed charges against them on July 21 in the same year.



Additional Public Prosecutor Morshedur Rahman Chowdhury said the verdict was delivered today after a prolonged hearing. “The two convicted individuals are currently absconding after being released on bail. An arrest warrant has been issued against them,” he added.
