Sunamganj: A two-day Jatra festival, organized as part of the celebration of the birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Nazrul Year, concluded here on Saturday. The festival was a collaborative effort between the Sunamganj District Shilpakala Academy and the Bangladesh Jatra Shilpa Unnayan Parishad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the festival's second and final day featured the Jatra play 'Sindur Diye Kinlam,' which was performed at the Hasan Raja Auditorium of the District Shilpakala Academy at 6:30 pm. The play was written by Mahadev Haldar and directed by Abdul Kadir.
The event saw the presence of eminent cultural personality Ramendra Bhattacharya as the chief guest, while District Cultural Officer Ahmed Manzurul Haque Chowdhury presided over the ceremony. Various notable attendees included members of the district BNP convening committee Akbar Ali, former district BNP general secretary Nadir Ahmed, and Sadar upazila BNP convener Faruk Ahmed Lilu. Other distinguished guests were Bangladesh Jatra Shilpa Unnayan Parishad Organising Secretary Abul Hasan, Police Superintendent Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Poura BNP convener Md Saifullah Hasan Juned, theatre personality Monju Talukdar, and businessmen Jillu Rahman and Nurul Amin Chowdhury.
The programme, moderated by Bangladesh Jatra Shilpa Unnayan Parishad, Sunamganj district unit General Secretary Sirajul Islam Palash, highlighted the cultural significance of Jatra and the contributions of Kazi Nazrul Islam to the arts. Jatra organization adviser and noted cultural personality Shukla Roy Chowdhury was also among the attendees, emphasizing the festival's role in promoting traditional theatre and culture.
