Magura: Two minor children drowned in a water-filled ditch at Baliadanga village in Sadar upazila of Magura on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Nayeem, 9, son of Jamal Hossain, and Nusrat, 7, daughter of Liton Hossain. The victims were cousins and aunt in relation.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Officer-in-Charge of Magura Sadar Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun reported that the two children were playing in rainwater near their houses in the morning. When family members realized the children were missing, they began searching for them.
The search took a critical turn when family members noticed the children’s sandals by a ditch. Acting on suspicion, they searched the water body and discovered the two children. The children were immediately taken to Magura 250-Bed Sadar Hospital. Unfortunately, the doctor on duty declared both children dead upon arrival.
