Gaibandha: Two minor children drowned in a pond at Taluk Sarbananda village under Sundarganj upazila on Friday. The victims were identified as Subaita Khatun, aged 5, from Sadullapur upazila, and Rokaiya Akhter, aged 4, from the local village.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tragic incident occurred while the girls were playing near the pond. Rokaiya accidentally slipped into the water, and in a courageous attempt to save her friend, Subaita also drowned. Despite efforts from their families, the children's bodies were later recovered.
Sundarganj Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hakim Azad confirmed the incident, highlighting the profound impact on the local community.
