Chattogram: Two breastfeeding corners have been inaugurated in Chattogram city - one near the Karnaphuli Bridge area and the other in front of the Central Jail. Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain inaugurated the corners on Saturday, September 19. These corners will provide mothers -- visiting these crowded areas -- with a safe, private space to breastfeed their children.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Dakbaksho Foundation has set up these corners with the assistance of the Chattogram City Corporation. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Hossain stressed the need for breastfeeding corners in key, high-traffic areas of the city. He noted that many mothers feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in public, and the lack of suitable, private spaces often makes it impossible for them to nurse their children when needed.
Highlighting the importance of the corner near Chattogram Central Jail, he pointed out that large numbers of visitors - including mothers come there daily and wait for long hours with their children. The Mayor also announced plans to gradually set up similar breastfeeding corners at other key locations across the city, including the airport, railway station, bus terminals, and Patenga.
The event was attended by Dakbaksho Foundation founder Ziaul Haque Palash, Foodie Express Limited CEO Md. Shahnewaz Mannan, and other stakeholders.
