Dhaka: Police have recovered 4.33 kilograms of heroin worth around Tk 4 crore from a truck in Sirajganj and arrested its driver and helper. The arrestees are truck driver Abu Bakkar, 44, from Maharajpur village in Chapainawabganj, and helper Sohag Ali, 19, from Sultanganj village in Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Santu disclosed the information at a press briefing at his office on Monday afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a temporary checkpoint near the Jamuna Bridge western toll plaza late Sunday night and stopped a Dhaka-bound truck from Chapainawabganj. Upon searching the truck, police recovered 4.33 kilograms of heroin and 58 narcotic injections, subsequently arresting the two men.
A case has been filed with Jamuna Bridge West Police Station. Police stated that the two men had allegedly been involved in the illegal drug trade for a long time. Notably, a drug case is also pending against driver Abu Bakkar with Darus Salam Police Station in Dhaka. The police superintendent emphasized that special drives against drugs would continue in the region.
