Sundarbans: The Coast Guard has arrested Nazrul Sheikh, the head of the notorious Ranga Bahini gang, along with another individual, and seized two single-barrel guns and six rounds of cartridges in the Kalabogi area of the Sundarbans.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq stated that the arrest followed a special operation launched by the Coast Guard Base Mongla at 6 am, acting on secret information. During the operation, the dacoits attempted to escape but were pursued and apprehended by the Coast Guard team.
Initial interrogation has revealed that Nazrul Sheikh, who resides in Rampal, has been linked to numerous robberies in the Sundarbans. The Ranga Bahini gang, under his leadership, had previously sent extortion letters to Jangalbari and Bonbibi Resort on July 31, 2025. In a related development, two members of the gang were captured on September 12, leading to the rescue of four fishermen held hostage.
Legal proceedings concerning the recent arrests and previous incidents involving the gang are currently underway.
