Khulna: Police arrested two persons in separate drives in the city on charges of possessing yaba tablets and counterfeit currency, said KMP media wing today. A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a man with 100 yaba tablets, Tk 4,800 in suspected drug sale proceeds and a motorcycle from the city's Tutpara Taltala Hospital Road area around 11:20pm on Saturday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrested individual was identified as Md Manik Sheikh, 28, son of Md Ali Sheikh and Hawa Begum, of Rupsha Natun Bazar WAPDA area under Khulna Sadar Police Station. Police stated that the DB team apprehended him from in front of Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque on the paved road along with a black-red Pulsar motorcycle allegedly used for selling drugs.
In another drive, the DB police arrested a man with 88 counterfeit notes of Tk 1,000 denomination from a hotel in the city's Sonadanga area on Saturday afternoon. The arrested was identified as Md Chhagir Shahin, 48, son of Abdul Salam and Amena Khatun, of Lakurtala under Patharghata upazila in Barguna district.
According to police, the DB team conducted the drive between 3:30pm and 4:30pm and arrested Shahin from Room No 326 on the fourth floor of Hotel Asia International Residential on Majid Sarani in Sonadanga. Police reported that the accused was found in possession of 88 counterfeit notes, each bearing a face value of Tk 1,000.
Legal proceedings in both cases are underway.
