Khulna:Members of Special Response Battalion (SRB-6) have apprehended two individuals following an attack on a police inspector during an attempted mugging in Khulna. The suspects have been identified as Miraj alias Speaker Miraj, 39, and his associate Md Ibrahim Gazi, 42.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests were made after a tip-off prompted the special unit to conduct separate raids in the Kalabagan area under Sonadanga Police Station and the Tutpara area under Khulna Sadar Police Station on Thursday. Nistar Ahmed, commander of SRB-6, reported that during initial questioning, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the incident. The process of transferring them to KMP's Sadar Police Station is underway.

The attack occurred on the night of October 9, when Police Inspector (unarmed) Shah Alam, 43, was assaulted by three unidentified muggers outside Collegiate School under Khulna Sadar Police Station. The inspector was en route to the city's Police Club by rickshaw when he was intercepted. The attackers attempted to steal his cash and mobile phone, subsequently injuring him seriously with machetes on both wrists before fleeing.

Following the attack, Shah Alam was promptly rescued by the officer-in-charge of Khulna Police Station and a mobile team from Sonadanga Police Station. He is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

Sub-Inspector (unarmed) Md Awal Hossain, of the District Detective Branch, has filed a case against unidentified persons in connection with the incident at Khulna Sadar Police Station.
