Dhaka: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of a woman in the capital's Turag area. The suspects have been identified as Noor Alam Bagh (47) and Md. Russell Madabbar, also known as Russell Islam Joni (25).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victim, Regina Momtaz (59), resided with her husband in a flat in Sector 15 under Turag Police Station. The murder took place on Monday, March 2, when the victim's husband left for Tarawih prayers at 8:05 pm. Upon returning at 9:15 pm, he discovered his wife unconscious on the floor, with her hands and feet bound with cloth and scotch tape wrapped around her nose and mouth. The apartment was found in disarray, indicating a struggle.
The victim was rushed to Dhaka Specialized Hospital, where she was declared dead by the on-duty doctor. Police investigations revealed CCTV footage showing two masked men entering the residence at 8:18 pm. The men allegedly tied the victim, suffocated her, and fled with several gold items, including bangles, a chain, and a nose ring.
A murder case was subsequently filed with Turag Police Station. Utilizing CCTV footage, technology, and intelligence inputs, police arrested Noor Alam Bagh in Sector 15 of Turag. Based on his information, authorities recovered stolen items and evidence, including scotch tape and broken glasses, from an office in Sector 12 under Uttara West Police Station. Later, Md. Russell Madabbar was apprehended near Uttara North Metro Station.
Legal proceedings against the suspects are ongoing.
