Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have apprehended two individuals in Tangail district for their alleged involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of 17-year-old student Sudipto Roy. The arrests took place last night, bringing a crucial development to this tragic case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspects have been identified as Abdullah, aged 22, and Zobaid Dewan, also 22. The arrests were announced in a press release issued by the DMP today, with the statement signed by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman from the DMP's media and public relations division.
In a related development, police from Vatara Thana have successfully recovered the body of the victim, along with other evidential materials linked to the murder, during a recent operation. The tragic sequence of events began when Sudipto, a student at Cambrian School and College, went missing on November 7 after leaving his hostel. The kidnappers subsequently demanded a ransom of 80 lakh taka from his family, ultimately taking his life when the ransom was not paid.
A formal case regarding the incident was lodged with the Vatara police station on November 11. Utilizing intelligence and technology, police were able to trace and arrest the suspects from Tangail's Madhupur area on November 11. Following the arrests, Sudipto's body, a knife believed to have been used in the murder, and his mobile phone were recovered from a house under the Shah Ali Police Station in Dhaka.
The arrested individuals have been presented before the court as the investigation continues to unfold, as per the official release.
