Dhaka: The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two active members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) during a raid in the Shahbagh area of the capital. The individuals were apprehended as part of a strategic operation conducted by law enforcement to curb activities related to the prohibited organization.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detainees have been identified as Md. Shakil Hawlader, aged 24, who served as the president of the Nilkamal Union branch of Chhatra League under Char Fashion Police Station in Bhola district, and Md. Imran Shahriar, aged 26, who was the general secretary of the Sheikh Russell National Shishu Kishore Parishad of Bhola district and had previously held the position of joint general secretary of the Nilkamal Union Chhatra League.
CTTC officials stated that the Special Action Group executed the operation around 6:30 pm on Monday near Dhaka Medical College under Shahbagh Police Station. The operation was prompted by a secret tip-off, which enabled the capture of the two individuals. The authorities revealed that Shakil was involved in protest marches in front of the Agargaon Passport Office and in Dhanmondi 27, whereas Imran had participated in a protest gathering in Dhanmondi 27 and another demonstration at the court premises.
CTTC officials have confirmed that legal proceedings against the arrestees are currently underway, as efforts continue to address the implications of their activities within the banned organization.
