Dhaka: The Embassy of Trkiye in Bangladesh hosted a special dinner and food tasting in Dhaka marking Turkish Cuisine Week, bringing together chefs and hospitality professionals from leading luxury hotels. Speaking at the event on Sunday evening, Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Sen expressed his pleasure at hosting the gathering and highlighted Turkish cuisine as a strong component of Trkiye’s culinary tourism. He noted that the invited chefs regularly host guests at their own establishments and said the embassy was delighted to honour them during the programme.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ambassador described Turkish cuisine as more than a collection of dishes, portraying it as a vibrant shared cultural heritage shaped over centuries through migration, rituals, collective efforts, and longstanding dining traditions. Chefs and sous chefs from several luxury hotels attended the event, which featured discussions and exchanges on Turkish culinary traditions, flavours, and cooking techniques.

Among the participants, Allama Iqbal, Junior Sous Chef at Sheraton Dhaka, described the programme as a valuable learning experience. He said the evening provided meaningful insights and inspiration, which he intended to share with his team. He also praised the initiative, saying it reflected a genuine effort to promote Turkish cuisine and culture internationally.

Observed annually from May 21 to 27, Turkish Cuisine Week is celebrated in Trkiye and at Turkish diplomatic missions and cultural centres worldwide under the auspices of Emine Erdogan, First Lady of the Republic of Trkiye. This year’s theme, ‘The Heritage Table,’ highlighted the stories, memories, traditions, and cultural heritage deeply rooted in Turkish cuisine.
