Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a constructive phone conversation on Monday evening, focusing on the ongoing conflict in Iran and efforts for a settlement in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov informed reporters that the conversation was initiated by Trump, who expressed a strong interest in achieving a swift ceasefire and a long-term resolution in Ukraine. The dialogue marked the first direct contact between the two leaders since late December 2025, with both agreeing to maintain regular communications moving forward.
Putin shared insights on pursuing an early political and diplomatic resolution to the Iran conflict, which would involve consultations with Persian Gulf leaders, Iran's president, and other international figures. Meanwhile, Trump offered his perspective on developments related to ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations in the region.
In addition to the Middle Eastern issues, Putin provided Trump with updates on the combat situation in Ukraine, noting the successful advancement of Russian troops. He suggested that this progress could serve as an impetus for Kyiv to engage in negotiated settlement talks.
The discussion also touched upon Venezuela, particularly in relation to the global oil market. Ushakov described the nearly hour-long exchange as substantive and of practical importance, highlighting the potential for future cooperation between the United States and Russia on international policy matters.
