Tribunal Takes Four-Year Child Rape Case in Cognizance

Chattogram: A court here today has taken the charge sheet of a four-year child rape case into cognizance. Judge Syeda Hafsa Jhuma of the Chattogram Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal has fixed date tomorrow for framing charge against the accused of the case, Monir Hossain.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Monir Hossain was present in the tribunal during today’s proceedings. Public prosecutor Mahmud-ul Alam Chowdhury Maruf stated that the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court earlier referred the case to the tribunal for trial.



The case record indicates that a four-year-old child was raped in a warehouse located adjacent to Balurmat of the Baklia thana on May 21 last year. The child’s father, Mehedi Hasan, filed a complaint with the Baklia police, accusing Monir as the lone criminal following the incident.



Monir Hossain, 30, who was living in the Miakhannagar area under Baklia thana, is a resident of the Gharghata area of Muradnagar upazila in Comilla. Police reported that Monir Hossain has provided a confessional statement in the court. Based on this statement, police have submitted the charge sheet to the court under Section 9(1) of the Prevention of Oppression of Women and Children Act, 2000.
