Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel embargo on former director general (DG) of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen (retd) Md Shafeenul Islam and his wife Soma Islam. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC in its plea stated that the commission is probing allegations of amassing illegal wealth by the former BGB DG through misuse of power and other types of corruption. The ACC expressed concern that at this stage, the two accused might flee the country to evade justice, prompting the necessity for a travel ban.
