Travel Ban Imposed on Sakib Al Hassan and 14 Others by Dhaka Court

Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team and former lawmaker Sakib Al Hassan, along with 14 others. Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court, Md Zakir Hossain Galib, issued the order in response to a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other individuals facing the travel ban include Deputy Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Abul Khair, his wife Kazi Sadia Hassan, Abul Kalam Matbar, Kanoka Afroz, Mohammad Bashar, Sajed Matbar, Aleya Begum, Kazi Fuad Hassan, Kazi Farid Hassan, Shirin Akhter, Javed A Matin, Zahed Kamal, Humayun Kabir, and Tanvir Nizam. The ACC is currently investigating allegations of misappropriation involving hundreds of crores from the country’s share market through various forms of corruption.



Deputy Director of Public Relations at the ACC headquarters, Aktarul Islam, stated that the commission received information from a confidential source suggesting that the accused might attempt to leave the country to evade the investigation. Consequently, the authorities deemed it necessary to impose the travel restrictions to prevent their departure.
